About our hostel... Baracca Backpacker Aurigeno is a tiny Hostel with only 13 beds, but with unlimited access to the peaceful outdoors and with a home-like atmosphere. It is situated off the beaten track in the beautiful Maggia Valley of in southern Switzerland (Ticino), just 13 km north of Lakes Maggiore, Locarno and Ascona. The Mediterranean climate and Italian lifestyle makes Ticino, the only Italian-speaking Canton, one of the most popular regions in Switzerland. Hidden among chestnut trees, waterfalls, and dozens of lakes in Ticino's largest valley, Vallemaggia, is the village of Aurigeno. Come here to take a "vacation from your vacation". Enjoy yourself in our unique, lush garden, beside wooden sculptures, waterfall, and wonderful views to the historic church and the surrounding mountains. Use the fully-equipped kitchen facilities and try some of our fresh herbs (free). If you like to be more active – no problem! Look in the common room at our huge information-board for numerous hiking, biking, and swimming suggestions. More then 700 km of hiking trails await you and we will help you find the right one for your own personal level. Or rent a bike (10.- Chf. per Day) to explore the area and to reach incredible bathing spots at the Maggia River, with small gorges, deep and emerald green water pools, and sandy beaches. Even more refreshing after a long hike is a jump into the water-pool from the waterfall, just a 10 minute walk from the Hostel. Facilities...

By train: From northern Switzerland or Germany, trains reach Locarno every hour (daytime): From Zurich and Lucerne in 3 hr, From Basel and Bern in 4 hr. From southern Switzerland and Italy trains run every 30 min. to Locarno (daytime); from Milano (Italy) it takes 2h 30min. At the train station in Locarno, catch bus no. 10 (dirn. Valle Maggia), travel up the valley about 25 min and get out at "Ronchini", cross the main road, walk up the road approx 50m, turn left and follow the hostel signs into the forest and across the suspension bridge (15min). By car: From Highway no. 2 (dir. Germany or Italy), take exit: "Bellinzona sud"; (Locarno/Lago Maggiore), drive to Locarno (through the tunnel), take exit: Vallemaggia/Centovalli and keep on driving approx. 15 min, then turn left "Aurigeno/Moghegno". Follow the signpost "Backpacker", and you can find us above the church of Aurigeno. Prices...
