About our hostel... New Ing Lodge offers comfort with a modern style in the Lake District National Park at an affordable price. We believe that a stay in the English Lake District should offer tranquility and serenity in a beautiful environment. We have a male and a female bunkroom as well as a couple of smaller rooms. There are showers and toilets, as well as a small kitchen area and common room. The Hostel is ideally situated for the quiet eastern fells of the Lake District. The Wainwright coast to coast path goes directly past us. A short walk, drive or ride away is Haweswater, the Eden Valley, and High Street Roman Road, and fells such as Kidsty Pike. In the other direction are the Howgill Fells. All these areas are excellent walking country. The area is superb for biking with some of the best riding in the country. We have mountain bikes for hire, with a special rate for our guests of £7 for a half day, and £12 for a full day, and we will give you all the information you need about routes. We can also help with other activities and local visits.

At the north end of Shap village opposite the supermarket. How to get there... By car: From the M6 motorway, turn off at Junction 39 and drive 2 miles to Shap village. By train: Take the main London-Glasgow line to Penrith station. Buses run from there to Shap, taking about 30 minutes. We can also arrange pick-ups. Prices... £12.50 without bedding, £14 with bedding. |
